Businesses urged to register for financial support

Welsh Government is urging businesses to ensure they are registered for financial support to help them deal with the ongoing impacts of coronavirus. The financial package is predominantly for businesses that pay non-domestic rates and have been forced to close or operate differently as a result of coronavirus restrictions. As businesses need to have registered with their local authorities in October or later in order to receive the payments, Welsh Government is urging firms that have not yet done so to take action now so they do not miss out. https://gov.wales/businesses-urged-register-financial-support

HMRC Self Assessment Deadline extended

Self Assessment customers who cannot file their tax return by the 31 January 2021 deadline will not receive a late filing penalty if they file online by 28 February.Taxpayers are still obliged to pay their bill by 31 January. Interest will be charged from 1 February on any outstanding liabilities. Customers can pay online, or via their bank, or by post before they file. More information on how to pay is at GOV.UK. Extension of the Restrictions Business Fund

This is an extension of the funding package, which WG put in place in early December. This latest funding will be used to extend the Economic Resilience Fund (ERF) Restrictions Business Fund non-domestic Rates (NDR) grant and Discretionary based grants for all non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure and tourism (NERHLT) sectors. It provides a top up payment to cover the period between the 25 January and end of March 2021 for businesses affected by national alert Level 4 restrictions. Allowing tourism to re-open over Easter will put North Wales on Road to Recovery

There are growing calls for a special recovery fund to be set up for the tourism and hospitality industry that’s been pushed into economic freefall as a result of the pandemic. According to Jim Jones, the Chief Executive of North Wales Tourism, it was also essential that existing financial support measures were extended to help them survive 2021. Supreme Court Decision on Business Interruption Insurance

The Supreme Court has published it’s ruling on whether a sample of 21 standard business interruption insurance policies covered businesses that were impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak. This follows the High Court’s judgment last September said that most of the disease clauses and certain prevention of access clauses (12 policy types from the sample of 21, issued by six insurers) provide cover and that the pandemic and the Government and public response caused the business interruption losses.
