In 2024, North Wales solidified its status as a must-visit destination, captivating UK travelers with its stunning landscapes and vibrant experiences, according to the Great Britain Tourism Survey (GBTS) and Day Visits Survey (GBDVS).

With Great Britain logging 1.1 billion domestic trips and £87.8 billion in spend, North Wales punched above its weight, attracting roughly 2.28 million overnight trips (around 30% of Wales 7.61 million total) and generating over £670 million in visitor spending.

This 11% spending surge from 2023, despite a slight GB-wide dip in trip volume, highlights the region’s strength for delivering high-value, unforgettable experiences.

From Eryri/ Snowdonia’s breathtaking trails to Conwy’s historic charm and Anglesey’s wild coastlines, North Wales continue to draw adventure-seekers, families and heritage lovers alike.

Holidays led the charge (42% of trips), with families flocking for kid-friendly and thrilling activities like hiking (45% of trips) and wildlife spotting (up 15% year-on-year). Zip World and the Ffestiniog Railway kept adrenaline high, while cosy self-catering stays (38%) and budget-friendly hotels (25%) catered to savvy travelers.

Short booking lead times (60% within a month) and easy car access (75% of trips) from nearby North West England made spontaneous getaways easy.

Day visits added £2.7 billion to the region’s economy, with summer peaks showcasing North Wales’ seasonal magic, while festive winter markets hinted at year-round potential.

At £325 per trip, visitors spent 12% more than the Wales average, spending on experiences like coasteering and local dining.

With eco-friendly draws like Eryri National Park’s low-carbon trails aligning with 2024’s “nature-first” vibe.

North Wales is perfectly positioned as the UK’s go-to for accessible, epic adventure, proving you don’t need to go far for a holiday that feels worlds away.
