Visitor Accommodation Registration

From autumn 2026, if you take bookings for overnight stays in Wales, youโ€™ll need to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority by law. It applies to anyone who takes bookings for overnight stays in Wales, from informal hosts letting out a spare room for one night to professional year-round providers.

Visit gov.wales/registeryourplace to learn more and sign up for reminders when registration opens.

Wales to create new standards for holiday accommodation

The Senedd has passed a Bill to support the development of tourism in Wales and improve visitor accommodation.

Providers of visitor accommodation โ€“ beginning with self-contained, self-catering accommodation like holiday cottages and flats โ€“ will need a licence.

To get a licence, providers will need to prove their accommodation is fit for visitors, by showing they have gas and electrical safety certificates, carbon monoxide alarms, public liability insurance, and that they have both conducted a fire safety risk assessment and taken relevant precautions.

The licensing scheme is likely to start in 2029 and will build on the national register of visitor accommodation providers to create a publicly available directory of visitor accommodation.

Inquiry to consider Designation Order for Glyndลตr National Park

Following the submission of a Designation Order by Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Welsh Government have announced their plans to appoint Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) to hold a public local inquiry to consider the representations and objections made in connection with the creation of the new Glyndลตr National Park. This is the next step in progressing their Programme for Government commitment to designate a new National Park to cover the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley.

NRW has completed a comprehensive evaluation and assessment programme in preparing the Designation Order and is satisfied that the evidence collected demonstrates that the areas included within the proposed Glyndลตr National Park meet the statutory tests for designation. These statutory tests include the consideration of natural beauty and opportunities for open-air recreation.

During the recent statutory Notification Period in which the public were given the opportunity to make representations and objections in respect of the Designation Order, a range of views were expressed, both for and against the creation of a new National Park, including from the Local Authorities within its proposed boundaries.  Consequently, in line with the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949, a public local inquiry will be held to consider those representations and objections.

HMRC arrears: Reflection on 2025 and what’s to come

Leonard Curtis successfully negotiated 222 Time-to-Pay arrangements in 2025 and maintained a high success rate of 98%, highlighting the teamโ€™s expertise and strong HMRC connections, which allows specialised support for businesses facing challenges.

In total, the team restructured ยฃ73m+ of tax arrears, supporting recovery across some of the UKโ€™s most pressured sectors and protecting more than 17,000 jobs.

Sector Stats

The industries most affected remained hospitality, construction and recruitment, all particularly exposed to increasing costs or exceptional financial shocks. Other sectors in need of assistance included the manufacturing and healthcare industries.

Wage inflation and National Insurance increases along with high energy prices and on-going post-Brexit trade challenges have continued to impact British businesses.

Looking forward into 2026

The impact of changes revealed in the UK Governmentโ€™s 2025 Autumn Budget will continue into 2026, whilst further planned increases such as business rates will leave businesses with increased overhead expenditure.

HMRCโ€™s status as secondary preferential creditor increases the risk for funders and many now require formal Time to Pay arrangements to protect their position in light of heightened HMRC enforcement and recovery action. This in itself calls for longer-term financial planning and navigation of more complex agreements to allow otherwise viable businesses to prosper.

“The excellent performance in 2025 is testament to the hard-work and expertise within the team. Whilst longer-term arrangements are still possible, the early evidence in 2026 is that HMRCโ€™s enforcement action is stiffening. As always, the sooner we can speak to HMRC the more likely it is that we can achieve a good result for all parties”

Joe Douglas, Business Advisory Senior Manager

We are thrilled to join North Wales Tourism as members, bringing the “Magic of Meee” to our regionโ€™s vibrant visitor economy. We believe that while technology and infrastructure move fast, belief moves faster. In a landscape as legendary as ours, the greatest asset remains the people who welcome the world to our doorstep.

At Meee, we help local businesses build cultures that people never want to leave. We specialise in “The Whyโ€, helping teams drop their “Bag of Crapโ„ข” (the self-doubt and limiting beliefs that hold them back) to transform anxiety into confidence and disengagement into purpose. By nurturing belief and connection, we enable tourism and hospitality staff to find their magic and reclaim their agency.

This shift in mindset is what turns a standard greeting into a world-class, high-value “Welsh Welcome” (Croeso) that feels both authentic and professional. We look forward to collaborating with fellow members to prove that when our people feel seen, heard, and supported, extraordinary things happen for our visitors, our businesses, and our communities.

Penderyn Unveils Icons of Wales No. 14 – The Village in Portmeirion, Marking a Landmark Centenary Celebration

Penderyn Distillery recently unveiled its latest addition to the acclaimed Icons of Wales series – No. 14: The Village – at a special tasting ceremony held in the enchanting North Wales village of Portmeirion. The release coincides with Portmeirionโ€™s 100th anniversary, paying tribute to the dreamlike, Italianate vision of its creator, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883โ€“1978). The name โ€˜The Villageโ€™ is based on the 1967โ€“68 TV series The Prisoner. Itโ€™s the mysterious place where the protagonist โ€œNumber Sixโ€ is held captive, and is only ever referred to on screen as โ€œThe Villageโ€.

Crafted at Penderynโ€™s Welsh distillery and finished in Amarone casks at 46% ABVThe Village celebrates Portmeirionโ€™s vibrant architecture and whimsical charm – an enduring symbol of Welsh creativity and individuality. The release follows the success of last yearโ€™s Icons of Wales No. 13: Bad Wolf, which sold out across UK specialist retailers within weeks and achieved a 4.8-star consumer rating on The Whisky Exchange.

A Tribute to a Remarkable Welsh-Italian Dream

Perched on the Dwyryd Estuary, the village of Portmeirion is a masterpiece of 20th-century design – a joyous blend of Mediterranean colour and Welsh coastal beauty. Conceived and constructed between 1925 and 1973, each building in the village bears Williams-Ellisโ€™s unique signature – playful, harmonious, and modernist in spirit.

In 1963, architecture critic Lewis Mumford described Portmeirion as โ€œa fantastic collection of impish modern fantasiesโ€ – a phrase that still captures its timeless appeal. The village captivated visitors such as Noรซl CowardGeorge Bernard ShawGregory Peck, and music icons like George Harrison, while becoming an international symbol of creative freedom as the filming location for the cult 1960s TV series The Prisoner, in which Patrick McGoohan famously declared, โ€œI am not a number. I am a free man.โ€

The Village Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Ripe fruits and oak spice intertwine with vanilla, cocoa, and delicate honey.
  • Palate: Luxurious and full-bodied, revealing red berries, ripe plums, soft spice and a honeyed sweetness enriched with floral undertones.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with candied fruit, spiced oak, and subtle grape tannins – a graceful echo of fading light over Italian vineyards.
  • RRP: ยฃ68.00

Penderyn CEO Stephen Davies said:

โ€œWith The Village, we wanted to capture not just the beauty of Portmeirion but its spirit of imagination – a true Welsh original inspired by Italian passion and craftsmanship.โ€

Celebrating Portmeirion100

The unveiling forms part of the villageโ€™s centenary year celebrations. Built from 1925 onwards and officially marking 100 years in 2026, Portmeirion continues to be a living work of art under charitable trust ownership, its 70 acres comprising hotels, self-catering cottages, boutiques and woodland trails.

Throughout 2026, the village will host a series of events, including:

  • Centenary Celebration Weekend (May 2-3, 2026): A 1920s-themed party with fireworks and live jazz.
  • Centenary Festival (Summer 2026): Four one-day concerts at Castell Deudraeth Fields featuring artists including Sir Bryn TerfelJools Holland, and Squeeze.
  • Six of One Convention (April 24-26, 2026): The Prisoner fan society returns to mark 60 years since filming began.

The Launch Film with Matthew Rhys

To mark the release, Welsh actor and Perry Mason star Matthew Rhys has created an evocative short film introducing The Village, celebrating the magic of Portmeirion and its place in Walesโ€™s artistic and architectural legacy. The video blends cinematic shots of the villageโ€™s pastel faรงades with Rhysโ€™s narration on identity, place and imagination – now streaming on Penderynโ€™s official website and social channels.

A National Celebration of Welsh Craft

The Village launch coincides with the Wales Week London festival (21 February – 7 March 2026), where Penderyn is running national tastings and masterclasses highlighting Welsh whisky innovation. Additional celebratory events will follow throughout the year across Penderynโ€™s three distillery sites – Brecon BeaconsLlandudno and Swansea Copperworks – where visitors can experience masterclasses, single-cask tours, and Amarone-themed pairing sessions.
