Network North Wales

Network North Wales has been launched by Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales.

Network North Wales is a hugely ambitious and transformative programme of work to better connect communities, with more rail and bus services, new stations, new transport routes, new trains, new buses and new technology.

At its heart will be the North Wales metro services. This will take a cross-border approach to transforming public transport in the Mersey-Dee area, including metro style services on the North Wales mainline and a new, direct rail link between Wrexham and Liverpool.

The vision for the programme is backed up by a delivery plan which covers short-term (0-12 months), medium-term (1-3 and 5 years) and long-term (to 2035 and beyond).

To ensure delivery, a Network North Steering Board has been set up which includes Transport for Wales, Network Rail, Ambition North Wales, Growth Track 360, the Liverpool City Region, the North Wales Corporate Joint Committee and the Department of Transport.

Details of the vision for the programme and the delivery plan for Network North Wales can be found here:

Business Events Delegate Spend (2025)

This report focused on a few main topics: expenditure by inbound business visitors to Britain, behaviour of delegates extending their trip for leisure, travel choices, sustainability & other findings.

The business visits and events sector is incredibly diverse – covering trade fairs, conferences and congresses, outdoor and entertainment events, as well as business tourism.

Report highlights:

  • Average delegate spend at business events in the UK has risen well above inflation since 2017, primarily due to longer stays.
  • International business events attracted much higher average spend than their domestic equivalents (4:1), as international visitors stayed longer and paid higher attendance fees.
  • Delegates from outside Europe spent £1,824 on average, compared to Â£872 for delegates from within Europe, and Â£328 for UK delegates.
  • Extending a trip increases spend by a factor of 2.5. Among those who extended their trip for leisure, the average spend was £1,760. Without the extension, the same delegates would have spent £714 on average.
  • Looking at differences among event types, the average trip spend for association events (£854)  is significantly higher than for corporate events (£651), and both types are higher than exhibitions (£326).
  • Average spend (within the UK) for incentive trips is Â£2,113 per delegate.
  • The main motive to attend an event is networking/collaboration (64%), followed by learning (53%) and career development (33%).
  • The majority of delegates hope to return to the city/region for leisure and/or business.

Cycling Tourism Development

This research explores the topic of cycling tourism in Wales, including current capacity and demand, as well as opportunities for growth.

Visit Wales aims to identify special interest tourism products with potential for future growth. Internal discussions have identified cycling (road, mountain and gravel) as a product which fits with Wales’ core offer, aligns with the brand vision (in particular, natural landscapes and adventure/activities) and contributes to wellbeing aims set out in strategies such as the Allage Mental Health Strategy and Wellbeing Strategy (Welsh Government), and Working Together for a Healthier Wales (Public Health Wales), as well as the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act 2015. Cycling is also thought to offer good potential in the shoulder seasons, which would align well with Visit Wales’ aims to grow tourism outside of the peak summer season.

Visit Wales commissioned Strategic Research and Insight (SRI), an independent Cardiff based research agency, to undertake research with the tourism industry, cycling providers and key partners. The main objectives are to understand:

  • Capacity for cycling tourism and current demand
  • Strengths and weakness of the current cycling tourism offer
  • Barriers and opportunities to grow cycling tourism

Main findings:

  • Stakeholders are very keen to see cycling tourism developed in Wales. The accommodation industry is also supportive.
  • Stakeholder feedback and the desk research show that to a large extent, the product required to attract cycling tourists already exists in Wales.
  • The emphasis is more on improving and maintaining better the product that currently exists rather than necessarily building a considerable number of new routes and trails.
  • The UK outside of Wales, primarily England, is a crucial market for cycling tourism in Wales.
  • Spring and autumn offer strong demand for cycling in Wales.

Room to Reward is a unique charity created to give something back and say ‘thank you’ to volunteers who give up their time and make a difference to people and places in need. Up and down the country, there are so many people helping, caring and loving others. Our simple initiative takes a wasted asset and uses it to recognise these Hidden Heroes. Room to Reward partners with hotels across the U.K who donate their anticipated unsold rooms.

Charities, community groups, grassroots sports clubs and other voluntary organisations nominate their Hidden Heroes for a well-earned short break. We make it happen. Over 950 hotels throughout the U.K. have joined the initiative. Collectively, they have donated in excess of £1.25million worth of breaks in unsold rooms to approx. 3000 inspirational volunteers from over 1000 charities and other voluntary organisations. Together, we’re making a little bit of a difference to those who make a difference to others.

Special brokerage for Waste and Recycling

PRS Power through their partners, Blizzard Group are delighted to offer special brokerage for all NWT members for Waste and Recycling.

Waste collections are charged against the number of times a Bin is Lifted and Emptied. It’s a simple science and the basis on which businesses are charged. Blizzard are brokers of this with all the major operators. In one case a Company owning some 8 Golf Courses has reduced their Group spend of £125,000 to below £92000. Massive savings and the service is the same.

What we ask is for NWT members to send to us their latest Waste bill from Biffa, Veolia, Ash, Gaskells, etc etc and they will very rapidly have priced through a centrally operating portal and those prices will be issued back to the NWT member.

No obligation & No charges for taking a look.
