North Wales Tourism have and are still working hard on behalf it’s members on issues that are affecting the industry.

We are in constant contact with the local MSs and MPs on these issues and are also lobbying side by side and working closely with the Wales Tourism Alliance to drive forward the importance of the industry to the economy of Wales and the effects and implications of these issues on the businesses and industry as a whole. We are also working closely with the local press and media to raise the issues affecting us to make sure the voice of our valuable industry is heard.

Attendance at Exhibitions

In March the Go North Wales Team promoted the destination at the British Tourism & Travel Show Birmingham as well as the online Webinario Event with American Travel Agents.  Both events were well attended with plenty of interest in the destination.

Go North Wales Promotion – Competition

Go North Wales is continuously promoting competitions on its website and social platforms.

The competition is promoted widely via our competition QR code which can be found on distributed flyers and on the old M&S Window Shop in Llandudno which allows passers-by to scan the QR code on the window which will then direct them to our website to enter their details for the competition. 

We are continually looking for a variety of prizes to offer throughout the year and if you would like to contribute to this please let us know.

In return, we can offer advertising on our website, including a large banner on the competition page and two side banners on our homepage. We will also link to your website and share the email data collected to add to your own mailing list. We will also promote it across our social channels.

Wales Revenue Authority Survey

Wales Tourism Alliance appoints a new Consultant Advocate

The Wales Tourism Alliance have appointed a new Consultant Advocate from 1st April 2024. Lisa Francis served a term as an elected member of the then National Assembly for Wales and was her party’s spokesperson for tourism, transport, culture and Welsh language, with further responsibility for developing the Assembly’s own procedural rules.

A Welsh-speaker and former proprietor of the Queensbridge Hotel in Aberystwyth, she was also a Director of Mid Wales Tourism and Tourism Advisor to Nominet UK. She has worked with an AM and MP, supporting them with research, media and constituents’ casework and, as a freelancer, offered bespoke advice to small tourism businesses caught up in the complicated interest rate swap scandal.

Lisa Francis replaces long standing Policy Advocate, Adrian Greason-Walker, as of the 1st April 2024.

New Workplace Regulations

New regulations have come into force in Wales, which aim to improve the quantity and quality of recycling and may affect you if you work in the waste industry in Wales or are the occupier of a non-domestic premises.

The Separation Requirements, also known as the Workplace Recycling Regulations, mean that from 6th April 2024:

  • All occupiers of non-domestic premises must present the following specified materials separately for collection.
  • Waste collectors must collect the specified materials separately from non-domestic premises
  • There should be no onward mixing of those separately collected materials

The materials specified in the regulations are:

  • Glass;
  • Cartons and similar, metal and plastic;
  • Paper and card;
  • Food waste from premises that produce 5 kilogrammes or more of food waste in seven consecutive days;
  • Unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment;
  • Unsold textiles;

In addition to this, the new regulations also extend existing bans to landfill and incineration:

Landfill bans:

  • Bans to landfill of the listed separately collected materials
  • All separately collected sWEEE (not just unsold)
  • All separately collected textiles (not just unsold)
  • All waste wood to landfill

Incineration bans:

  • Bans to incineration of the listed separately collected materials
  • All separately collected sWEEE (not just unsold)

Net Zero North Wales

Following on from the Net Zero North Wales Network session in February, the next session is set for the 25th April 2024 at Pontio, Deiniol Rd, Bangor LL57 2TQ.

The session includes lunch, Expo and networking from 12.30pm with the meeting start at 1.30pm till 3.30pm.

Speaker/Presenters/Expo so far include Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Welsh Government’s NEW £20m capital fund to support SMEs (in retail, hospitality & leisure), Aber Falls Whisky Distillery, CITB, the Roberts Group, Outwrite PR, the latest field visit for our Net Zero Ambassadors to Harlech Foodservice, , Xplore! , RTC North, Medru and Bangor University.

This session also features samples of locally produced food and drink from Purple Moose, Dragon Cheese, Conwy Kombucha and Siwgr a Sbeis.

To recap on the Net Zero North Wales network, the idea is a straightforward one, bring together key businesses from across the North Wales private sector along with business representative bodies/local fora and not for profit organisations/Universities/Colleges, around the key elements of delivering decarbonisation and supporting our Journey to Net Zero.
